National Gallery Art Workshop
On Wednesday, 50 pupils took part in a vibrant Art Workshop at The National Gallery, centred on the theme of colour. Led by the Gallery’s in-house artists, pupils explored how colour is used across a range of artworks, discussing techniques and ideas directly in front of the pieces themselves.
They had the rare opportunity to sketch and experiment with materials while seated beside iconic works. They visited a stunning 15th-century gilded church altarpiece featuring Saint Cecilia! Inspired by how candlelight once illuminated such works, pupils created their own pop-up lantern artworks using small lights and mixed materials
