Year 13 Leavers' Tea Party

On Friday 9th May, we held our traditional Year 13 Leavers’ Tea Party. All the cakes were baked by the Sixth Form team and there was the ceremonial cutting of the ‘13’ cake by our Head Girl Grace E and Head Boy Jonas B. The students really appreciated the home baking. Large quantities of cake were consumed before they went off to the park together. We wish them all well in their exams and look forward to seeing them relax at their prom to be held at The London Rowing Club on 20th June.

Royal Academy Summer Exhibition Acceptances!

We are thrilled to announce that Sasha K in Year 9 and Roux T In Year 10 have had their paintings selected to be displayed in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Thousands of artists apply every year for the prestigious award, making it a huge achievement. Sasha’s colourful entry (pictured) is a detailed painting of a ‘Samovar’, a Russian metal container traditionally used to heat and boil water. Well done Sasha and Roux – what an achievement! The exhibition will be available to view online and in person from 17th July - 17th August.

Top Musical Talent

Nicholas P, one of our Year 9 Music Scholars, won first place in the lower brass category at the recent Guildhall Young Artists National Brass and Percussion Day. He also won the Katie Ogdon Solo Competition on trombone at the recent National Youth Brass Band Easter Course and has been invited to attend the National Youth Brass Band summer course as co-principal trombone. These are amazing achievements! Well done to Nicholas.

Astronomy Research Project

For the first time at Saint Cecilia’s, five pupils in Year 9 have successfully completed an independent Astronomy research project (called Higher Project Qualification). This involved them picking their own topic to research, attending on-line lessons, researching that topic using a variety of resources, writing an essay and presenting their findings/essay in front of others.

It is a hugely challenging task to take on and they have done it in Year 9! Huge congratulations to them for all their efforts, and for challenging themselves. Well done to Lael G, Angel G, Skye H-S, Orion Y and Daniel P (pictured).

Musical Talent

We are delighted to share some wonderful news from the Music Department. Vedant P, a music scholar in Year 9, has accepted a place at Guildhall School of Music and Drama on its junior music programme starting in September 2025. Following a series of auditions for junior music programmes, he was offered places at both Guildhall and Trinity Laban and has decided to join Guildhall. Well done Vedant! We will be following his music career with interest.

On Thursday 8th May, Year 7 and 8 teams attended their age group event for the Wandsworth Schools Athletics at Battersea Park. It was a hugely successful day with over 40 of our pupils competing. Teams were selected after two competitive athletics trials at the Wimbledon Park track. Well done to all who came along. The highlight of the day were the relays where Saint Cecilia's dominated. A massive well done to our many finalists and medallists.

Artists of the Week

We are so proud of Year 7s brilliant finish to their spring portraiture project. They learned how to improve their observational drawing skills and how to show identity in portraits inspired by Frida Kahlo and the Fauves. For many, it was the first time they worked with new materials like watercolour and oil pastels, and we were so impressed with their focus and determination. Above are some outstanding examples, well done!
