Year 12 EPQ Trip to Southampton

The new cohort of EPQ students in Year 12 travelled down to the University of Southampton on Monday to take part in a research methods and library visit session. The day started with a workshop on how to find electronic resources on their topics, using Boolean searches, and finished with time in the Hartley Library searching the printed resources. The students found lots of resources to support their projects – now they just need to read them all!

Exciting Start in Japanese

Pupils enjoyed a fun and interactive session in the new Japanese Club. They learnt greetings, basic language structures and some Japanese characters! By the end of the lesson they could introduce themselves and make small talk with other classmates. They were able to complete a comprehension activity which shows how even beginners can understand more than they think by using their eyes as well as their ears! They finished off by finding the characters to spell their names which we will be practising in next Thursday's session.

Food Technology Classes Next Year

We are delighted to announce that Food Technology will be reintroduced as a taught subject from September for pupils in Years 7 to 9, following the appointment of specialist teacher, Miss Phoebe Menzie. This is a fantastic opportunity for children to develop essential life skills, explore nutrition and build confidence in the kitchen. We look forward to seeing their creativity and enthusiasm come to life in this hands-on subject!

Special Artist of the Week

our Artist of the Week is Joanna C in Year 9. Joanna created this thoughtful and original piece inspired by an evening of worship at Saint Cecilia’s. During the evening, a Sixth Former had commented that the Chapel was the ‘heart’ of Saint Cecilia’s, pumping the gospel out to the school. Her artwork demonstrates this beautifully, showing very detailed depictions of the subject departments, tied together by a golden thread. Well done Joanna!

Pupil Prowess

We are delighted to congratulate Year 9 pupil, Angel G, who has recently been selected to take part in two prestigious external opportunities. In her own words, “I’m excited to share that I’ve been accepted onto Imperial College’s Year 9 Engineering Summer School. Over the course of four days, I’ll work in a group with an assigned mentor and take part in various engineering workshops and activities. In addition to this, I have been selected to be a part of Citizens UK’s Youth Assembly Leadership Team, where I will assist the organisation at future events to raise awareness about the living wage crisis."

Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expedition

Well done to all our participants who worked so hard on their Bronze Assessed expedition. Out walking on the hottest day of the year, our Year 9s persevered up and over the Gomshall Hills, cooked up a storm and broke records for packing up the quickest and leaving the tidiest campsite in our experience! We are so proud of how they pushed themselves to take on this extreme challenge. The winners of the campsite Master Chef award will be announced at Celebration Evening in July. Please ensure all borrowed kit has been returned to us, to allow the next group to complete their trip next week.
