We are so proud of Year 7s brilliant finish to their spring portraiture project. They learned how to improve their observational drawing skills and how to show identity in portraits inspired by Frida Kahlo and the Fauves. For many, it was the first time they worked with new materials like watercolour and oil pastels, and we were so impressed with their focus and determination. Above are some outstanding examples, well done!
In April, Sixth Form students came to school in cultural dress. There were some fantastic outfits, as you can see from the photos below, and it was a wonderful celebration of the diversity in our Sixth Form.
The annual chess tournament took place on Monday, involving 32 pupils from Year 7 through to Year 13. The day finished with a close final watched by a crowd of participants and spectators, in which Marko M (Year 10 pictured left) beat Micky N (Year 8 pictured right). Well done to all of the players, and we are looking forward to next year's event.
Congratulations to Marcos-Lucca GB in Year 8 who has been awarded The Joan Scrutton Music Trust Award. This is a remarkable achievement as only five string players are selected each year for this prestigious award. The award also comes with £250 which he is putting towards the purchase of his new violin. Well done Marcos-Lucca!
Over the past few weeks, pupils in Year 7 have been creating 3D models of cells at home. For many, they went above and beyond, and spent hours creating amazing visualisations of different cells. Making these models is not only fun, but challenges pupils, mixing science and facts with art and creativity. The models will be displayed in classrooms to help pupils remember basic biology facts whilst enhancing the visual appeal of the rooms.
We are delighted to report that Toby G and Bertie D in Year 10 were selected to represent Thames London in a four boat at the British Rowing Junior Inter-Regional Regatta at the weekend at the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham. Out of 14 regions, they got through to the ‘A’ final and won the silver medal! This is extremely impressive and we congratulate both boys.
After a very busy final week of term in the Music Department, it was a real joy to spend some time giving back to our local community. Our Guitar Group and Year 12 music class visited Pines Nursing Home, where they performed a wonderful selection of pieces for the residents. After the performances, students took time to chat with the residents about music and every day life, sharing stories and smiles.
Tom R (Year 12) took on the challenge of refereeing at the Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s Rugby Festival. Over three days, he officiated 15 matches, covering age groups from Under-13s to Under-18s, with teams from across England, Scotland, and Wales. As a Young Match Official (YMO), he gained valuable experience working alongside seasoned referees while confidently managing games on his own. Refereeing proved both demanding and rewarding, giving Tom a real insight into the role’s challenges. A standout moment was being entrusted with the tournament mascot—a tradition for the youngest referee—tasked with keeping it safe throughout the event. Well done, Tom!
