Surrey Storm Netball Academy Trials on
Thursday 4th November 2021 1-3pm

This Thursday, 21st October, trials take place for the 2022 Saint Cecilia’s Rugby Academy with London Irish. Students can study A Levels or BTECs, play Rugby and receive weekly training and coaching from London Irish professionals. The Academy has places for 26 Sixth Form boys.
Here, London Irish Captain, Matt Rogerson gives his introduction to the programme.
Trials are at London Irish’s training ground, Hazelwood, in Sunbury-on-Thames from 4-6pm. Transport will be provided leaving Saint Cecilia’s at 2.30pm.
To register for a place at the trials, email as soon as possible to sixthform@saintcecilias.london
We congratulate Rosabel in Year 10 after braving the elements recently to raise funds for the homeless charity, Glassdoor. We are proud of her attitude, bravery and determination in life to effect change and play her role in society. There are many vulnerable people who find themselves homeless, including runaway teens and those with mental health difficulties, and Rosabel’s efforts can help bring about change.
On Friday 1st October 2021, despite the fact that that it rained all day, Rosabel slept outdoors along with her sister and a friend from their junior church, in order to raise money for this London-based charity and to raise awareness of homelessness. They were hoping to raise a target amount of £250 and as you can see on the below link, have surpassed the expectation and have raised over £900 so far! https://glassdoor.enthuse.com/pf/annarobinson
Year 11 A and B netball teams took part in the Wandsworth borough annual netball tournament on Monday and Saint Cecilia’s came 1st and 2nd overall!
The A team won all their pool games so qualified for the final. The B team played against only A teams of other schools and still won all their pool games, apart from one, which they drew. This meant they also qualified for the final, so it was Saint Cecilia’s A against Saint Cecilia’s B in the final. The girls showcased some fantastic netball skills with the A team winning by one goal. A fantastic result for the school to be placed 1st and 2nd. This shows great depth in our Year 11 netball teams, thanks to their hard work at training sessions each week. A huge well done to all players involved.

We were delighted to welcome so many people to the Dedication Service of the new wing on Wednesday 29th September. We were lucky with good weather and so were able to hold the ceremony outside the new building in our new courtyard as planned.

Sam in Year 10, has written and published his own book.
Sam’s book, titled God Exists, Why Christianity?, sets out to explain some of the evidence for God’s existence and key beliefs of Christianity. Sam wanted to write the book to challenge the view that science has disproved Christianity. He writes in his intro, "It has become a basic assumption in Western society that science has displaced theism; it's in our education, it's on the internet, and it's on the news."
Chaplain Shoderu has spoken about Sam’s book in House Assemblies as a springboard to encourage students not to settle for assumptions - whatever they may be, but to be willing to engage in the questions they have about faith.
Sam has gifted a number of copies to the school library, which are available for staff and pupils to borrow. Congratulations to Sam for this impressive achievement!
Sam’s book is also available to purchase on Amazon here
I am absolutely delighted to be able to officially announce the launch of an exciting new partnership with Netball Superleague team Surrey Storm! Following on from the rugby partnership we formed last year with London Irish, we wanted to be able to offer a similar opportunity to pupils and students who play netball and want to take it to the next level.
Our partnership with Surrey Storm will offer our senior girls regular coaching by a Superleague player and other incredible opportunities to help them develop, as well as inspiring the younger pupils in the school to be involved in netball and reach their true potential.
For 2021-2022, Surrey Storm Superleague player Ellie Kelk will be our senior head coach this season. She will be in school
every Wednesday to coach our two senior netball squads throughout the season, as well as being at all their fixtures.
There will be trials in November 2021 at Surrey Sports Park for all senior girls wanting to get into the two netball squads for the 2022-2023 season (for both Saint Cecilia’s and prospective new Sixth Form students from other schools). Full
details about these trials will be circulated nearer the time.
Those selected for the Netball Squad in the 2022-23 season will receive an exciting raft of benefits including:
· Coaching by Surrey Storm Superleague players three times a week
· Special branded Surrey Storm/Saint Cecilia’s kit
· Tickets to watch Surrey Storm play at Surrey Sports Park
· Regular fixtures and tournaments

We are delighted to see the opening of the Costa Coffee Café in the Sixth Form Common Room. We know that this will be a welcome addition to the facilities we offer our Sixth Form students and our staff.
