The Library at Saint Cecilia’s is at the heart of our school, in both our physical location and in our belief in the importance of reading. We have an excellent range of fiction books, from the classics to the latest best-selling novels and graphic novels, including manga. The non-fiction collection covers curriculum subjects and topics of general interest and is regularly updated. We also have a range of weekly magazines and newspapers. We provide a quiet and welcoming space for reading and working and have plenty of comfortable seating and laptops available for personal use. We organise a variety of events for pupils and students throughout the year, including clubs, author visits, competitions, book sales and trips.

All children are automatically members of the Library, and Year 7 groups attend an induction session in September where they learn what we offer and what we expect. This includes using their school photo card to borrow books and using the Library software to search the catalogue for resources or to see when their books are due for return. Highly-trained staff offer support to pupils, from helping to research topics, to suggesting books based on previous reading choices.

The Library is open and staffed from 8:00am to 4.15pm each day.

Library Website
The Library software, Accessit, allows children to look for books, renew items and more. This can be visited from any device at https://uk.accessit.online/stc08 or by clicking on the button below. Children need to log in using their school sign-in information to be able to renew their books or write reviews.

Birthday Books
We’re encouraging children to do the same as our Chaplain, and pledge to read a book a month, logging the titles on one of our special bookmarks. Please ask your child to look for a message from the Library in their school emails around, but not necessarily on, their birthday. Then they may come and choose a book from our Birthday Box as a gift from the Library.

Our Chaplain

"On the 21st of September, 2020 I turned thirty-five, and was thinking not only about marking my birthday but especially how to mark my 35th year of life. One idea I came up with is to read a book every month in the coming year. As well as coming up with books I want to read I'm planning to ask some older and wiser friends to recommend the one book that has impacted them the most. Once I have my 12 books for the year I will decide which order I want to read them in, then get reading."
