Artist of the Week

Year 12 Art students are currently developing ideas for their personal portfolio, which accounts for 60% of their final grade, based on themes they have chosen themselves.

Beth D has been exploring the theme of distorted faces. Capturing the unusual proportions, tone and texture of a distorted face accurately is particularly challenging, making these drawings of her brother a real demonstration of skill and careful observation. The work is based on a strong series of photographs that Beth took herself, showing how valuable high-quality primary source material can be. Her willingness to study tone closely and understand how facial proportions change through distortion has led to some excellent outcomes.
