Friday Night Lights Rugby match at Rosslyn Park
Thank you to all the visitors who supported the Friday 11th January rugby match against Cardinal Vaughan School – it was fantastic to see so many parents, students and staff at Rosslyn Park. The evening is one of the highlights of our sports calendar and always an exciting occasion for both players and spectators. Our 1st XV team once again performed really well and Saint Cecilia’s won 21-17. Please below a match report from Sebastian Easterbrook, in Year 12:
On Friday the 11th January 2018, Saint Cecilia’s first VX rugby team, lead by Raphael Arboine, played Cardinal Vaughan and avenged last year’s defeat in an intense battle, coming out on top with a score of 21-17. The game saw Saint Cecilia’s break into an early lead with tries from Bradley Dwyer and Adam Scully, both successfully converted by Milos Frost. Cardinal Vaughan responded to the team’s early lead, keeping the game fast paced and intense. During the second half, Jack Brewer scored a try, after breaking through Cardinal Vaughan’s defensive line. The try was once again converted by Milos Frost. The second half was played aggressively by both sides, but Saint Cecilia’s overwhelming determination saw them take a well-deserved victory and Jack Brewer taking man of the match. Mr Alex Bishop’s (Curriculum Leader for PE and rugby coach) motivation and the crowd’s cheers played a pivotal role in the team’s success. After the final whistle blew, the spectators rushed the field to congratulate the players, making it all the more special and important to the players for being a part of such a memorable moment in Saint Cecilia’s sporting history.
